How to Make Homemade Granola: A Delicious and Nutritious Recipe for Better Health

Being able to make panty staples at home can be a great way to save money, especially for something like granola. Granola helps to make a fast, balanced breakfast by adding it to greek yogurt and berries. This recipe makes your home smell incredible, and it tastes so good you’ll be grabbing it by the handful as a snack.
The combination of oats, nuts, and a variety of seeds means that you are getting more that just fiber and carbohydrates added to your meal, you are also getting omega-3 fatty acids and some additional protein. The combination of maple, vanilla, and cinnamon is just what your breakfast or mid-afternoon snack has been missing. And you can make a batch in just a few minutes and for much less money that buying it at the store. Its also endlessly customizable and by adding additional ingredients such as additional nuts, chocolate chips and coconut chips, it can make a great trail mix!

Granola Recipe
Ingredients:
3 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup chopped nuts (I like pecans)
1 cup hulled raw pumpkin seeds
1 cup hulled raw sunflower seeds
½ cup brown sugar
½ to ¾ cup maple syrup
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
¼ baking soda
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
*after baking, customize with additional ingredients such as dried fruit or chocolate
First method (fastest):
Mix everything together, put on parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 35-40 minutes, mixing every 10 minutes or so. Allow to cool completely before mixing in additional ingredients. Store in an airtight container such as a large mason jar.
Second method (larger clumps):
Combine oats, nuts, and seeds in a large mixing bowl, set aside. Combine brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon and salt in saucepan. Bring to a boil and whisk for one minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla and baking soda and mix. Will be frothy. Pour over oat mixture and toss to coat. Add olive oil, toss to coat. Spread on parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 35-45 minutes (until the granola is toasted), mixing every 10 minutes or so. Season with salt to taste. Allow to cool completely before mixing in any other ingredients. Store in airtight container such as a large mason jar.
